Lingam singing bowls are characterized by a lingam placed at the centre of the inner bowl. The origin of the antique handmade singing bowl is believed to be at least 16th century. This bowl is used for ritual and ceremonial use. The handcrafted bowls have smooth finishing walls and the lips are extended inwards towards the bowl. The decoration in this handicraft singing bowl is minimal with only a few concentric circles at the foot of the lingam and outer walls of the rims. The sound produced has a soothing effect on the listener as it is sweet with a long sustained sound. Due to its unusual shape and unique design, these singing bowls are also hard to find. The word lingam, relates to the male phallus, especially the one attached to the Hindu God Shiva. It is made for ceremonial use and prayer, worshipping Shiva is a major sect of Hinduism, the handmade Lingam bowls inspire us to be aware of God's creativity.
